The Rev. William Earl Campbell, 95, son of Lewis Edward and Sarah Ethel Carter Campbell, was born Jan. 27, 1909, at Upton. He died Aug. 2, 2004, at Houston House in Houston.He married Lulu Ragain Feb. 1, 1928. They had seven children.The Rev. Campbell spent his entire life in the Upton community. He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, school bus driving, sheep shearing and being custodian of the Hickory Ridge Cemetery.He gave his life to Christ and accepted the call to the ministry as a young man. His passion was for his church and the need to lead others to salvation. He established Peace Chapel Assembly of God in 1947 and continued to pastor there until 2002, when his health forced his retirement. He had preached in 36 locations in the area and until recently averaged 150 to 200 chapters of Bible reading each week. He prayed daily for each member of his family, calling them by name.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Bessie and Lavena; and two sisters, Gladys Williamson and Grace Ragain.Surviving are two sons, Clifford Campbell of Bucyrus and Delbert Campbell of Plato; three daughters, Jean Stilley of Bucyrus, Jessie Daugherty of Strafford and Marilyn Brown of Huggins; one sister, Thelma Stallcup of Bucyrus; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.Services were Aug. 5 at the Assembly of God in Houston with the Rev. Russell Kane officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.Memorials may be made to Gideons International. “
