Ruth L. Smith, 82, daughter of James and Elizabeth Fulbright Quinn, was born March 3, 1922, at Wichita, Kan. She died Oct. 12, 2004, at her home north of Houston following several months illness.She married Dick Smith in 1940. They had four children.Mrs. Smith spent the early years of her life in Mountain Grove. The Smiths moved to Houston in 1952. She immediately became a part of the community as a businesswoman, operating the Houston DX and Midtown Skelly stations. She also worked for the forestry service. Whatever it took to make a living for her family, she was willing to do.She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Ralph; her husband in 1984, as well as three sisters, Minnie, Georgia and Viola, and one brother, Bill.Surviving are her children, Alene Elliott of Alma, William Smith Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, and Carol Vasseur of DeWitt, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren and adopted grandchildren and her pets, Missy, Peekaboo, Mutt and Sparkplug.Services were Oct. 15 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery. “
