Arvin Ross Mortensen, 63, son of Richard and Corilla Mortensen, was born Nov. 19, 1941, at Virden, N.M. He died March 2, 2005, at his home at Roby.He married the love of his life, Sharon Lou Metcalf, June 5, 1965, at Lordsburg, N.M. They moved to Roby in 1975.Mr. Mortensen retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service which included two tours in Vietnam and two in Germany. His service career began as a paratrooper until the Army realized he had flat feet. He became a military policeman and later an Army medic.He was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Houston branch since 1975.His hobbies included fishing, hunting and riding horses, farming and raising animals of all kinds.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary.Surviving are his wife; sons, Barry of Dayton, Ohio, Richard of Festus, Daniel of Arkansas, Gregory of Utah, Alexander of Texas, Scott of Fort Hood, Texas, Todd of Roby and Tony of San Diego, Calif.; daughters, Angela Willhite of Rolla, Christina of Summersville and Sarah of Houston; his sisters, Millie McEntire of Nevada, Mamie Freestone and McCray Gilpen of Mesa, Ariz., Dixie Atkisson of Schurita, Ariz., and Edna Lou Foss of Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren and all of the foster children over the years who called him Dad.Services were March 5 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Houston with Richard Green presiding. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston. “
