John Montgomery, 84, son of William and Leona Sutton Montgomery, was born Aug. 26, 1920, at Houston. He died March 29, 2005, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.He joined the Army Nov. 23, 1942. He was a staff sergeant with the 863rd Engineer Aviation Battalion stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged Dec. 26, 1945.He married Naomi Blankenship July 24, 1948, at Raymondville. Sadie Miles performed the ceremony. They spent their lifetime in the Houston and Solo communities.Mr. Montgomery was a carpenter. He loved woodworking and carving and enjoyed the outdoors in his garden.He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Stonewall Montgomery and Earl Montgomery.Surviving are his wife of 56 years; one brother, Marvin Montgomery of Houston; and three sisters, Lillie Sharpe of Yuma, Ariz., Wilda Blankenship of Houston and Ruby Gettys of Cabool.Services were April 2 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery. “
