Laura Margaret Denke Olson, 60, daughter of John Denke and Bertha Ida Geigle Denke, was born Dec. 16, 1944, at Wall, S.D. She died March 24, 2005, after a short battle with colon cancer.She was baptized Jan. 28, 1945, at St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Quinn, S.D., and confirmed May 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Creighton, S.D.She started playing a pump organ in the sixth grade at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and played the organ at Immanuel Church and her home church in Missouri.She attended the rural O’Neil Grade School near Creighton, S.D., and graduated from Wall High School. She attended Black Hills State College and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught for about 30 years in South Dakota, Montana and Missouri.While teaching in Montana, she met her husband, Wes Olson. They were married June 8, 1972, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Creighton, S.D. They had three children.The Olsons moved in 1984 from South Dakota to a cattle farm near Summersville. Mrs. Olson continued teaching at the Summersville Schools for 19 years. She retired in January due to her illness.She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Arnold Denke.Surviving are her husband; son, Dion of Barnhart; two daughters, Alica Olson Osei of Tulsa, Okla., and Kristi of the home; and her sister, Marie Naescher.Services were March 28 at the Summersville High School gymnasium with the Rev. David Kettner and the Rev. John Helmers officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery near Summersville under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville. “
