Lydia McAllister, 97, daughter of Carlisle James Tilton and Julia Weir Tilton, was born Feb. 6, 1908, at Ogema, Wis. She died April 30, 2005, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.Her parents were early ministers of the Church of God. Mrs. McAllister attended school in Brice at Bennett Springs through the eighth grade and went to work at a factory in town.In 1931, she married Paul O. Bailey. They had four children.During World War II, the Baileys left their children with his mother and went to Pearl Harbor to work. She was an engraver and was up for first-class government pay overseas when she left Pearl Harbor.The family settled in Anderson, Ind., where she worked at Gospel Trumpet Co., which is now Warner Press, publishers for the Church of God.She divorced and in 1953, married Joe R. McAllister.She worked with her pastor husband, Joe, for 30 years and enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; one sister, Phebe Link; two brothers, Paul and Ethan; two sons, John and Dan Bailey; and one great-grandchild.Surviving are two daughters, Martha Zimmerman of Cambria, Wis., and Carol Schaufele Scott of Houston; one brother, Amos Tilton of Sycamore, Ill.; four stepchildren, Ella Mae Harber, Carole B. Stoops, Archie McAllister and Joseph McAllister; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grand-children.Graveside services were May 3 at the Friendship Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Powell officiating under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. “
