Edward L. “”Eddie”” Hilterbrand, 65, son of Mitchell K. Hilterbrand and Helen Wava Laffoon Hilterbrand, was born July 31, 1939, at Houston. He died May 6, 2005, at Brockton, Mass.He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Houston, later moving his membership to Memorial Baptist Church in Columbia.He graduated from Houston High School in 1957 and attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He lived in California and Georgia before settling in Brockton, Mass.He retired in 2003 after 31 years with Amtrak.As a youth, his interests were exploring the caves around Houston. While in school at Columbia, he belonged to a spelunking club. He worked one summer at Ozark Caverns at Lake of the Ozarks.Mr. Hilterbrand studied horticulture and had a lifelong love of gardening, flowers and plants.He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.Surviving are one sister, Diana Vandivort of Houston; a niece, nephews and cousins.Memorial services were May 17 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Gard officiating. “
