Sylvia Catherine Goodman Herndon, 93, daughter of Jessie Witchel Goodman and Nancy Jane Edwards, was born April 29, 1912, at Grogan. She died May 3, 2005, at Houston House Nursing Center.She married James Simeon “”Sim”” Herndon March 16, 1929, at Houston. They were married 36 years and had three children before his death in July 1965.The Herndons were farmers in the Solo and Brown Hill communities. After the death of her husband, she worked at The Lee Co. for eight years. She spent her entire life in Texas County.Mrs. Herndon became a member of the Ozark Baptist Church Oct. 29, 1933, and moved her membership to the Brown Hill Baptist Church in 1954. She loved the outdoors, gardening and her flower gardens and kept busy canning from her garden and making quilts.She was a Red Cross volunteer for 14 years and candy striper at the Texas County Memorial Hospital for a number of years.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Paul Goodman, Ray Goodman and two un-named infants; and a great-granddaughter.Surviving are two sons, Jessie Herndon and Chester Herndon of Houston; one daughter, Shirley Herndon Wenger of Houston; one brother, Elmer Goodman of Houston; four sisters, Goldia Hurley and Lucille Christeson of Cabool, Doris Goforth of Houston and Dorothy Glenn of Elk Creek; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.Services were May 7 at the Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Hamilton and the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. “
