James Loy Bailie, 82, son of James Clarence Bailie and Katherine Melissa Scott Bailie, was born May 11, 1923, near Licking. He died June 10, 2005, at Cox Medical Center.He married Viola Maxine Ward July 4, 1944. They had one daughter.Mr. Bailie served in the U.S. Army in 1945-’46. After his discharge, he spent several years farming and working at various jobs. He retired in 1985 from the Dept. of the Army at Fort Leonard Wood.Mr. Bailie accepted Christ as savior in 1974 and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Licking. He was a member of Latimer Lodge 145 AF and AM, the Scottish Rite and American Legion.After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop and working in his yard and garden. He devoted time volunteering at the Licking Bridge Builders Senior Center. In 1998, he and his wife received the volunteer of the year Lance Award presented by the Southwest Missouri Office of Aging.He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Myrtle Pennock; and three brothers, Coy, Roy and Lester.Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Wanda Garrison of Licking; one sister, Opal Sligh of Chula Vista, Calif.; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.Services were June 12 at the First Baptist Church in Licking with Dr. Wilbur Mobley and the Rev. Robert Gifford officiating. Burial was in the Williams Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking. “
