Marshall Carter Jr., 73, son of Oscar and Leah Snyder Carter, was born Sept. 13, 1931, at Upton. He died July 18, 2005, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.He married Betty Ellen McKee July 19, 1952. They had four children.Mr. Carter served a tour of duty with the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany.After 35 years, he retired as cook supervisor at the General Leonard Wood Army Hospital.Mr. Carter was a member of Success Baptist Church and was known in the community for his generous spirit and willingness to help those in need.He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding with the Twin Rivers Trail Riders, watching the Houston sports programs and spending time with his family. He was recently recognized as the Lady softball Tigers’ biggest fan.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Harvey, Wesley, Wilford and Kenneth; one sister, Lorene; and two great-grandchildren.Surviving are his children, Connie Parks of Oak Grove, Lonnie Carter of Nixa, Johnny Carter of Douglasville, Ga., and Julia Pounds of Houston; two sisters, Ruby Ramsey and Hazel Postlewait of Bucyrus; one brother, Vearn Carter of Bucyrus; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the Success Baptist Church with burial in the Hickory Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.Visitation is 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (Thursday) at the Evans chapel. “
