Earl Gene Williamson, 77, son of Edward and Gladys Williamson, was born July 26, 1928, at Dykes. He died Aug. 14, 2005, at Houston House Nursing Center after complications of surgery.He graduated from Houston High School in 1945 and entered the U.S. Navy.After his military discharge, he traveled throughout the Midwest and settled in Waterloo, Iowa. He began working at the Rath Packing Co. in May 1948. He retired when the company closed in 1985. He married Berdella Ohlendorf of northern Iowa in 1949 at Salem, Ark. They returned to Texas County in the late ’80s, after his retirement, and built a house from lumber cut from their land.Mr. Williamson loved to travel and enjoyed the outdoors. During his lifetime, he visited most of the United States and several Canadian territories.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.Surviving are his wife of the home at Bucyrus; six children, Edith Tomkins of Waterloo, Iowa, Beverly Wait of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Donald Williamson of Arroyo Grande, Calif., Dr. Larry Williamson of Walker, W.Va., Connie Spicher of Marshfield and John Williamson of North Pole, Alaska; four brothers, Wilbur “”Pete”” Williamson and Carmel Williamson of Houston, Ivan Roy Williamson of Bucyrus and Allen Gayle Williamson of Burke, Va.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Hickory Ridge Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the Houston Elementary Library for the purchase of new books. “
