Betty Lou Sorrell, 72, daughter of Lee and Nova Nelson, was born Feb. 1, 1933, in St. Louis. She died Oct. 18, 2005, at National Health Care Center in St. Charles.She married Dean Sorrell Oct. 25, 1953. Mrs. Sorrell was a 1949 graduate of Houston High School and a graduate of Washington University School of Nursing with an R.N. degree. She worked as a nurse, seasonally prepared tax returns and was an office manager in a doctor’s office. During the years the family lived in Maryland Heights, she was active in church and community organizations and supported her children in many activities. She was a 4-H leader for many years.She loved traveling with her husband and children and took numerous trips domestically and abroad. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and sewing and did a variety of handwork. Some of her most treasured times were spent at the river cabin on the Gasconade.She was preceded in death by her parents.Surviving are her husband; a son, David Sorrell of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Diane Melson of Ashburn, Va.; two brothers, Paul Nelson of Rogersville and Arnold Nelson of Salem; one sister, Carolynn Becker of Jefferson City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.Services are noon Saturday at the Baue Funeral and Memorial Center Chapel in St. Charles. Burial will be in the Valhalla Cemetery.Visitation is 3 to 8 o’clock Friday evening at the funeral home. “
