Roy M. Jones, 84, son of Harvey Roy Jones and Vannie Smith, was born April 7, 1921, at Desha, Ark. He died Oct. 24, 2005, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.Mr. Jones joined the Army May 29, 1941, serving during World War II as a medic. He attended Medical Tech School in O’Reilly, Ga. He served in Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged Nov. 10, 1945, as a staff sergeant.He married Juanita McKinney Nov. 7, 1942. They had seven children.Mr. Jones was a craftsman, using his talents in woodworking.He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors and playing the guitar. With his love of bluegrass and country music, he played with a group on the weekends at the old Union school for the Possum Creek Opry. They family gathered there for Thanksgiving, eating and playing music.He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and his wife in 1999.Surviving are three sons, Bruce Jones of Katy, Texas, Garrett Jones of Portage, Ind., and David Jones of Bucyrus; four daughters, Kay Kilb of St. Louis, Sherry Lawrence of Lebanon, Peggy McCoy of Houston and Beatrice Steinbarger of Licking; one brother, Bud Jones of Batesville, Ark.; one sister, Velma Purnasses of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Services were Oct. 28 at the Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. “
