Ruby Merle Rees Swisher, 87, daughter of Joe S. and Rachel Ice Rees, was born July 28, 1918, at Tyrone. She died Oct. 22, 2005, at the Kabul Nursing Home at Cabool.She grew up in the Grandview community, where she accepted Christ as her Savior at age 14. She became a member of the Grandview Baptist Church, later moving her membership to Elk Creek Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and played the piano for many years and loved gospel music.She married Edwin Newton Swisher May 26, 1940. They had four children.The Swishers bought a farm and moved to the Elk Creek community in 1945. Mrs. Swisher worked at the shoe factory in Cabool for seven years.She was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Joyce Marlene; her parents; one brother, Virgil Rees; and five sisters, Ethel Fulk, Ada Fulk, Myrtle Byrd Ward, Bertha Hobbs and Ruth Lay.Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Linda Walls of Florissant; two sons, Keith Swisher of Elk Creek and Larry Swisher of Appleton City; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Services were Oct. 25 at the Elk Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Brad Wallace and the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in the Ozark Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.Memorials may be made to the Elk Creek Baptist Church or Hospice of Care. “
