Fern Walling Swartz Martin, 95, the second of 12 children of John Andrew “”Andy”” Walling and Mary Katherine “”Katie”” Fox, was born Jan. 7, 1910, near Eunice. She died Dec. 19, 2005, at Houston House, where she had been a resident for six years.In her late teens, she moved to Iowa to find work. In 1931, she married Charles J. Swartz. They had four children. Mr. Swartz died in December 1946 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.After the death of her husband, Mrs. Swartz moved to the Yukon area to be near family members.She married Berchel Martin in 1951. They had one son, Donald. Mr. Martin died in the summer of 1995.In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine; eight brothers and sisters and three grandchildren.Surviving are her children, Margaret Hall of Elk Creek, Harry Swartz of Hesperia, Calif., Beatrice Hall of Summersville and Donald Martin of Sparta; one brother, Kennett Walling of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Ruth Courtney and Rose Wallace of Licking; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.Services were Dec. 29 at the Midvale Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Emmett Bradford officiating. Burial was in the Big Creek Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association c/o Bradford Funeral Home. “
