Douglass Lloyd Block, 41, son of Lloyd and Jill Block, was born March 24, 1964, at Muscatine, Iowa. He died Jan. 7, 2006, at his home at Cape Girardeau, after a year-long battle with cancer.He lived several years in Houston, where his father was head football coach.He married Margo Thien March 11, 1995, at Cape Girardeau.Mr. Block graduated from Arkansas State University and received his master’s degree from Southern Illinois University. He was a football coach at Southeast Missouri State University, Cal State University and Southern Illinois University.He was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard for 19 years, six years full-time. He served in Iraq for 14 months from 2004 to 2005. He was the local chairman of Ducks Unlimited.Surviving are his wife; son, Austin Block of Cape Girardeau; his parents of Caruthersville; and two sisters, Jo Loyd Zinselmeyer of St. Louis and Lorie Marie Roberts of Bruce, Miss.Services were Jan. 10 at the Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel with Dr. Paul Currie officiating with full military honors by the Missouri National Guard Honor Team from Cape Girardeau.Memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice, 1701 Lacey, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701 or Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Chaplains Fund Operation Helping Hand, Department of Ministry and Pastoral Care, Room 3007, 6900 Georgia Ave., Northwest Washington, D.C. 20307.
