Clara E. Crocker, 94, daughter of Clana and Ethel Lee Creason, was born May 26, 1912, at Plato. She died Feb. 19, 2007, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

She married Vernon “Tip” William Crocker June 16, 1939, at the home the Rev. Bart Thomas. The Crockers had five children.

Mrs. Crocker saw many changes over her lifetime: horses replaced by automobiles, kerosene lanterns to electricity, water from a well or creek to indoor plumbing and man walking on the moon. She worked away from home most of her life.

She made dresses from feed-sack cloth, trimming them with ribbon and rickrack; and would fill bottles with hot water on cold winter nights and wrap them in towels to place at her children’s feet.

She was active in the church, teaching lessons in Sunday and Bible schools. She was a storyteller and at age 94, could recite the poem about “The Cat Who Came Back.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, March 4, 1983; one daughter, Darlene, May 2, 1998; and two brothers, Clarence Creason and John Creason.

Surviving are one son, Steve Crocker of Roby; three daughters, Pauline Lemons of Plato, Vernene Conley of Springfield and Sylvia Palmer of Port Lavaca, Texas; one sister, Vi Howard of Greeneville; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Feb. 22 at the Plato Baptist Church with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Stark Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
