Lorene Violet VanHorn, 80, daughter of William “Bill” Albert Steelman and Estella Perry Bryant Steelman, was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Shannon County. She died Feb. 9, 2007, at the home of her son at Fenton.

She married Ray VanHorn May 15, 1944. They had eight children.

Mrs. VanHorn spent her life helping others. She enjoyed making quilts, one for each child, grandchild and great-grandchild; playing bingo and crossword books.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Tom, Earl, Lee, infant Calvin, Corb, Burley and Clyde; two sisters, Almeda and Gladys; two daughters, Betty Jean and Diana; and one son, Jimmy.

Surviving are her children, James VanHorn and Lonnie Van Horn of Fenton, Patricia Davis of St. Peters, Linda Bockhoff of Imperial and Connie Cox of Maplewood; one sister, Goldie Johnson Alexander of Des Moines, Iowa; three brothers, Ray Steelman of St. Louis, Albert Steelman of Summersville and Carl Steelman of Mexico, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services were Feb. 13 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Gary Steelman and the Rev. Albert Steelman officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery.
