Gerald L. Flowers, 73, son of Ray and Erma Thomas Flowers, was born Sept. 26, 1933, at Bado. He died March 8, 2007, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

He attended Lone Star School eight years and graduated from Houston High School in 1951.

In 1952, he went to Kansas with a group of friends to work.

He married Bonnie Lavoie Dec. 24, 1952. They had two children.

Mr. Flowers continued working at aircraft factories in Wichita until 1955, when he and his family moved back to Houston. In 1956, he went to work for Cabool Shoe Co., remaining there until 1987, spending several years as a supervisor.

He was a charter member of the Texas County Pilot Aviation Association when it formed in 1972. In 1974, he became a licensed private pilot.

In 1987, he began driving a bus for the Houston Schools, continuing until January of this year.

The Flowers lived on the family farm in the Bado community since 1956. He enjoyed his cattle and the outdoors. The family spent time boating on the lakes and camping in the ’60s.

He was baptized in August 1968 in the Little Piney River at Bado and rededicated his life in February 2007.

Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife of the home; daughter, Chris Honeycutt of Houston; son, Greg Flowers of Cabool; two brothers, Raymond Flowers of Cabool and Terry Flowers of Houston; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were March 12 at the Bado Community Church with Larry Shelley and Donnie Wells officiating. Burial was in the Bado Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
