James Edward VanHorn, 59, son of Ray VanHorn and Lorene Violet Steelman VanHorn, was born Sept. 8, 1947, at Caraway, Ark. He died March 13, 2007, at his home at Fenton after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He married Brenda Sue Cox Jan. 2, 1971. They had one daughter during their 36-year marriage.

Mr. VanHorn served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 12, 1964, until Nov. 3, 1967. He was a manager at Texaco until he became ill and was unable to work.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Diana VanHorn, Betty Jean VanHorn and Patricia Davis; and one brother, Jimmy VanHorn.

Surviving are his wife of the home at Fenton; daughter, Donna Hendricks of Fenton; one brother, Lonnie VanHorn of Fenton; two sisters, Linda Bockhoff of Imperial and Bonnie Cox of Maplewood; and two grandchildren.

Services were March 16 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Albert Steelman officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Antioch Cemetery.
