Geraldine Marie Faul Merckling, 56, daughter of Curly and Lelia Faul, was born Dec. 23, 1950. She died March 16, 2007.

During her childhood, the family traveled while her father served in the military. She spent most of her adult life between her native home of Louisiana and the Houston/Raymondville area.

She married Doyle Merckling May 25, 1978. They had one daughter.

Mrs. Merckling received her GED in 1997 and was salutatorian in 1998 of her graduating class at Texas County Technical Institute.

She had designated herself an organ donor many years ago. Despite her terminal illness, a gentleman in his 50s in St. Louis was a recipient.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Donald and Daniel Faul.

Surviving are her husband of Raymondville; daughter, Amy Merckling of the home; three stepchildren, Marty Merckling of Houston, Robert “Bobby” Merckling of Raymondville and Sherri Merckling Gale of Willow Springs; one brother, Ronald Faul of Patterson, La.; one sister, Georgia Faul White of Patterson, La.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were March 20 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Boone Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her honor to a fund to be distributed among organizations for study and research relating to her illnesses. Donations may be left at Evans Funeral Home or The Bank of Houston.
