Kathryn Arlene Kirby Whitten, 63, daughter of George H. and Iona Wack Kirby, was born Sept. 24, 1943, at Emmaus, Pa. She died April 10, 2007, at Columbia.

She grew up in Washington, N.J., graduating from Washington High School in 1961. She attended Houghton College in New York, where she met her husband.

She married Peter Whitten June 7, 1963. They had three children and lived in Kentucky and Illinois during the early years of their marriage before moving to Indiana, where they ministered for 32 years. The last eight years were spent in the Missouri Ozarks.

Mrs. Whitten loved nature and her flower beds, spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, playing the piano, spending time with her horse, corresponding with friends and scenic drives.

Surviving are her husband of Raymondville; three children, Shawn of Springfield, Heather Schwartz of Richardton, N.D., and Heidi Malikowski of Licking; four siblings, Ramona Pace of Augusta, Maine, George H. Kirby II of Port Murray, N.J., Roger Kirby of Washington, N.J., and William Kirby of Booth Bay Harbor, Maine; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services were April 14 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Houston with Pastor Maggie Kramer officiating.
