Billie Wayne Lumbeck, 75, son of Ira Edward Lunbeck and Opal Miller Lunbeck, was born Jan. 19, 1932, at Gideon. He died April 15, 2007, at Colmery-O’Neil Veterans Administration Medical Center at Topeka, Kan.

A former resident of Texas County, Mr. Lunbeck had lived in Topeka, Kan., for the last 16 years.

He served from 1949 to 1952 in the U.S. Army and from 1955 to 1957 in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

While in Texas County, he worked at Mid-America Dairymen in Cabool for The Lee Co. in Houston in the late ’70s and ’80s.

He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica for friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Addie Brown Lunbeck.

Surviving are one sister, JoAnn Turnbough Johnson of Houston; and one brother, Mike Lunbeck of Simmons.

Memorial services were April 28 at the Simmons Baptist Church with the Rev. Cordie Wimberley officiating. Burial was in the Oak Dale Cemetery at Simmons.
