Hauling burglary tools and a sledgehammer, two Houston residents arrived at the Eagles Club last week on South U.S. 63 intent on breaking in.

Houston police – acting on an anonymous tip – were watching the building and quickly moved in to arrest Adam B. Clark, 17, 16250 Roberson Dr., and Chris D. Compton, 18, 9113 Haney Drive.

Compton is charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and first-degree trespassing. His bond was set at $30,000.

Adam B. Clark faces the same charges, along with possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $35,000.

Both arrived at about 2:35 a.m. to the organization’s building. According to a police report, one of the men attempted to unscrew a light, but was unable to get the job done because the bulb was too hot. A few minutes later, a trip was made to Houston Wal-Mart, where gloves and a sledgehammer were purchased. At 3:06 a.m., police said the men returned to complete the job.

After leaving, Compton returned to retrieve a nearby car, police said, while Clark hid at a nearby church on South U.S. 63 to wait for a ride. One shirt used in the burglary was ditched behind the Pit Stop, while gloves were tossed at Hog’s Breath Cycle Shop.

Both were free on bond on Tuesday afternoon.
