The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce has planned a VIP Tour of Fort Leonard Wood on Tuesday, June 19.

Working with the base commander’s office, the fort and chamber have a full day of activity planned. The tour includes coffee at the USO to see the year-old facility, a “hands on” opportunity at the Drivers’ Simulator Training School and an American Eagle open house to see cabinetry done by Shriver Cabinets, a Houston chamber member. The tour will then walk through the Shoot House to experience an Iraqi Village, observing firing range training and lunch with representatives from Fort Leonard Wood at the MP Star Base.

Transportation will be provided at 8:30 a.m. from the chamber office. Individuals are welcome to drive personal vehicles and meet the group at Highways 17 and AW in the commuter parking lot at 9 am. From there, everyone will be transported by a Fort Leonard Wood vehicle. The tour will be back into Houston by 2:45 p.m.

“This tour is always enjoyable, very educational, informative and both humbling and inspirational,” said Brenda Senter, the chamber’s executive director. “The fort has 30,000 people everyday working there in both civilian and military positions. Texas County is second in the area with numbers working there. This tour not only exhibits all the activities, building projects and the massive training ground for our military, but it lets you see first hand our wonderful country and military.”

The tour is open to the public, but you must sign up with the chamber by June 15. Anyone who attends must purchase his or her own lunch. Reserve your spot by calling 417-967-2220 or e-mailing chamber004@centurytel.net.
