Viola “Granny” Maye Holt, 74, daughter of James and Bessie Buckner Sullins, was born Oct. 16, 1932, at Kinderpost. She died April 29, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
She married Lester Roy Herman Holt Nov. 3, 1950. During the more than 44 year of marriage, they had six children.
Known as Granny Viola, she spent her life taking care of her family. She loved flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; two daughters, Mable Victoria “Vickie” Eiffert Aug. 24, 1988 and Brenda Louise Holt April 26, 1965; two brothers, William “Buddy” Sullins and Thomas Jewell Sullins; and three sisters, Beulah Sullins, Wilma Smith and an infant sister.
Surviving are three daughters, Virginia Bates and Karen Backues of Licking and Barbara Turner of Cherryville; one son, Roy Holt of Springfield; two brothers, Vernon Sullins and James Sullins of Licking; three sisters, Violet Grady and Wilda Lane of Licking and Francis “Sug” Shrout of Cabool; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services were May 2 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel in Licking with Elder Noel Mooney and Amy Dickens officiating. Burial was in the Craddock Cemetery near Licking.
