Mable Smith Blankenship, 92, daughter of John and Ollie Walls Smith, was born Nov. 23, 1914, at Solo. She died May 17, 2007, at Houston House Nursing Center.
She married Albert Henry “Joe” Blankenship June 27, 1932. They had three sons.
Mrs. Blankenship was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Houston for more than 50 years. She enjoyed tending the nursery on Sunday mornings and singing in the choir. She later moved her membership to the First Baptist Church in Cabool after relocating there with her son in 1998.
She spent most of her life in the Houston area, where she and her husband managed the Superior Cleaners for several years. She worked for C.W. Harry’s Department Store for a number of years and was a volunteer for the Texas County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed working in her garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; son, Donald Rex; six brothers, Harry, Roy, Edgar, Johnny, Ray and Wayne; and two sisters, Faye Apperson and Fern Hamilton.
Surviving are two sons, Roger Lee of Springfield and Connie Joe of Houston; and one sister, Ethel Salisbury Holliday of Cabool.
Services were May 19 at the First Baptist Church in Houston with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Texas County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
