Wave Audrey Belew, 87, daughter of Charles Edward Light and Nona Floral Pitts Light, was born June 17, 1919, at Summersville. She died May 9, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View.

She married Lloyd Ralph Belew Feb. 14, 1939, at Houston. They had one daughter.

Mrs. Bates worked with her husband on the farm for many years. She also worked at Brown Shoe Co. and retired from Angelica Uniform Co. in Summersville.

She loved working in her garden raising vegetables and spending time in her flower gardens. She spent the afternoons sitting on her porch, watching the bluebirds, doves and hummingbirds and visiting on the phone with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Mabel Shafer.

Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Lampone of Hartshorn; one grandson, two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services were May 12 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial was in the Riley Cemetery.
