Firms selected to participate in the construction of the $10 million Texas County Justice Center in Houston gathered last week to discuss the project.
Representatives of Septagon Construction Co., a Sedalia construction management firm, and Treanor Architects, St. Louis, met with those hired to build the 61,500 square foot structure at Spruce Street and Grand Avenue. Wright-Wagner Joint Venture of St. Louis is the primary contractor on the project, which is expected to take 13 months to complete, said Greg Drake of Septagon Construction, project manager.
The project was made possible by two half-cent sales taxes that were approved by voters in November 2005 and went on the books a year ago. The voter okay allowed bonds totaling about $15 million to be sold, allowing for the justice center and renovations to the 1932-era county courthouse, which underwent tuckpointing with installation of new windows and a roof.
In addition to judicial quarters, the county prosecutor, public administrator, circuit clerk, juvenile office and coroner will occupy space at the justice center. A 72-bed jail also is included.
Site preparation is under way, and underground utilities are partially installed.
Here is the list of subcontractors selected by the county commission:

County Presiding Commissioner Don Shelhammer said the contracting companies will be hiring local residents to augment their company. Anyone desiring employment should contact Missouri Job Service in West Plains or Rolla. He said individual contractors are responsible for hiring – not the county or its construction managers.
