Hubert Gary Tomlinson, 83, son of Wilson and Mimi Burns Tomlinson, was born March 25, 1924, at Newark, Ark. He died June 10, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
Mr. Tomlinson grew up in Independence County, Ark., and graduated from high school in 1943 in Bragg City.
He entered the Navy in August 1944, serving in World War II. He was discharged in June 1946.
He married Florence Marie Holmes Aug. 22, 1951, in Clay County, Ark.
Mr. Tomlinson was a transportation supervisor at Cahokia, Ill., School District 187, retiring in 1984.
He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, spending many nights watching them on TV. He was also an avid reader and loved to talk politics. He was a proud Democrat, a Mason and member of Emmeth Lodge of Fairview Heights, Ill. He loved to dance, especially the older county music, using a walker in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; four sisters, Glendean Tomlinson, Sarah Mollie Tomlinson, Gertrude Lynn and Wanda Blanke; and one brother, Rueben Tomlinson.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Curran of Mount Olive, Ill., Connie Castonguay of Sabattus, Maine, and Rebecca McGrew of Chatham, Ill.; two brothers, Stanley Tomlinson of Gosnell, Ark., and Russell Tomlinson of Bragg City; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 o’clock today (Thursday) at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Hamilton officiating. Burial is in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
