Iva Delores Cooper, 91, daughter of Raymond Henry and Mayhulda R. Minitie Fowler Huffman, was born March 18, 1916, at Doss. She died June 7, 2007, at Mountain View. She was a resident at the Mountain View Healthcare Center.

She attended various rural schools in her childhood, enjoying the play parties, square dances and socials as a young woman.

She married Henry Cooper May 14, 1938. They had five children and were married 61 years before Mr. Cooper’s death in 2000.

Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and created countless quilts, one for each of her children and grandchildren. She loved planting and grew and canned everything she prepared.

She obtained her GED at age 52.

After raising her children, she found time to oil paint pictures, saw blades and washboards. She fashioned a large picture from buttons from various garments.

She was baptized at an early age and attended the Church of Christ and the Summersville Christian Church for many years. While attending Praise and Worship Church, she was baptized in the Jack’s Fork River.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; half sister, Bess Smith Land; half brothers, Lee Smith and Jett Smith; two sisters, Ruby Mangan and Orpha Land; and four brothers, Carl Huffman, Adgie Huffman, Truman Huffman and Ervin Huffman.

Surviving are her children, Karen Montgomery, Marilyn Hunt, Jerry Cooper, Calvin Cooper and Christa Jackson; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services were June 10 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rick Purcell officiating. Burial was in the Summersville City Cemetery.
