Ernest J. “Jack” Sooter Jr. 83, son of Ernest J. Sooter Sr. and Faye E. Gentry, was born Dec. 23, 1923, at Houston. He died June 18, 2007, in Kansas City.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, 870th field artillery as an advance scout and observer for field artillery fire and the 810th 66th infantry divison and the Korean War.

He graduated from Finley College with a degree in engineering. He retired as regional district manager from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

He ws preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Schindler Sooter; two brothers, William and Franklin; and a sister, Edna Pawling.

Surviving is a brother, Harold L. Sooter of Maysville.

Graveside services are 2 o’clock today (Thursday) at Green Lawn Cemetery in Kansas City under the direction of Park Lawn Chapel in Kansas City.
