Wayne H. Bates, 65, son of Virgil and Mary Thompson Bates, was born June 7, 1942, at Licking. He died June 10, 2007, at his home at Licking.
Mr. Bates grew up in the Licking community, where he graduated in 1960.
He married Maryann V. Mikulski Sept. 2, 1989, in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Bates worked for Motorola as an electronic engineer. He later was a tool-room electrician at Automatic Spring Coiling in Chicago.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, making wine, traveling and watching NBA basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Chuck and Ed Bates; and one sister, Virginia Rieder.
Surviving are his wife of the home; four children, Steven Bates, Patty Gilbreath, Denise McDonough and Nicky Barham; four brothers, Robert Bates, Dean Bates, Gary Bates and Ray Bates; three sisters, Marie York, Edna Smith and Louise Walker; and six grandchildren.
Services were June 13 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Billy Walker officiating. Burial was in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery.
