U.S. Army Retired Major William B. Foster, 86, son of Cecil and Bertha Lingo Foster, was born Jan. 16, 1921, at Theron near Roubidoux. He died June 10, 2007.

He attended Prairie and Pleasant Ridge elementary schools and Houston High School.

A graduate of Columbia College, he was a combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received a battlefield commission to second lieutenant. Over his 20 years in the U.S. Army, he received many decorations including the Bronze Star for valor, Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal. He earned nine Campaign Stars for participating in nine major campaigns in Europe and Korea.

He retired from Federal Service after his military career.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Milena Pacossi Foster.

Surviving are his children, Michael, Stephen and Mark Foster; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services were June 13 at the Stygar Family of Funeral Service Florrisant Chapel with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
