The City of Houston will ask its engineering firm to examine a project that would link Holder Drive to Thomasville Road. The matter was discussed last week during a meeting of the Houston City Council.
City Administrator Bill Bates said the city would ask Hood-Rich Architects to study a realignment of a previous plan that would allow the extension to occur. Funds were included in this year’s budget to complete the work, but the city couldn’t reach an agreement with a property owner to make the project a reality. Bates said the city is studying a realignment that would bring the project further west. That plan was met with favor with property owners in the area, he said.
The city says the project is important to help traffic flow and spark other development in the area.
In other matters, members:
-Learned a grant will lead to a rehabilitation of the Houston Municipal Swimming Pool’s plumbing and filtering system. Of the $75,000 – $80,000 outlay, $30,000 will be paid by the grant.
-Heard that work continues to make improvements to the community’s water system on the south side of the town. Property easements for the work are being drafted.
-Learned a new surface has been installed to the tennis courts at West Side Park.
-Learned that a reappraisal of a tract known as the Tweed property has been completed. The paperwork has been forwarded to MoDOT for its review; it is funding the effort that includes 4.8 acres and some structures. The property is situated south of the Houston Memorial Airport at Airport Road and Hawthorn Avenue.
