Katherine Duff Smith and Brian Kelly Briggs were married June 2 in the rose garden of the Overlook House in Portland, Ore.
The Rev. Ms. Jo Ann Wright, retired rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Vinita, Okla., officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Robert and Deann Johnson of Vinita, Okla., and the late Jay L. Smith. Her grandparents are Edna K. Duff of Houston, the late William H. Duff and the late Dewey and Rosemary Smith.
Parents of the groom are William F. and Peggy Briggs of Portland, Ore.
The bride wore an ivory silk gown featuring Cherokee beadwork in a basket-weave design.
Amy Deaton Smith of New York City, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kelsie Briggs of Portland, Ore., sister of the groom.
Noah Adler of Portland served as best man. Groomsman was David West of Exeter, N.H.
Passages from the Song of Solomon and Psalm 121 were selected by the couple and read by the maid of honor and Mary C. Stone of Licking, friend of the bride.
A reception was held at the Overlook House following the ceremony.
The bride, a former Houston resident, is a graduate of Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Okla., and is a candidate for an M.A. at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
The groom is a graduate of Evergreen State College at Olympia, Wash., and received his master’s of library science from North Carolina Central University at Durham.
After a trip to the Oregon coast, the couple is at home at Sylva, N.C.
