Members of Downtown Houston Inc. are finalizing plans for a new roof at a historic Houston building that will be transformed into a welcome center near U.S. 63 and Oak Hill Drive.

The organization met last week to get updates on several projects:

-A detailed document that shows bricks by location in the Lone Star Plaza is nearing completion, it was reported. A few still need to be installed. The first mowing of the new grass at the plaza is expected soon.

-Historical sketches on copper will be added to new trash receptacles downtown. The first depicts what Grand Avenue looked like about seven decades ago.

-Plans continue for the welcome center in the former Haney Market. The group was to make determinations on a new roof during a meeting Wednesday [yesterday]. The exterior rock is set to be power washed and new concrete walkways installed.

-The arrival of cooler weather will start the process to plant native grasses, plants and wildflowers on the hillside that once housed a redi-mix business along Brushy Creek. That will serve as the trailhead for the Village Trail, a walking and bicycling venue. City crews have been preparing the site.
