Gene Everett Gaines, 74, son of Everett and Alma Martin Gaines, was born June 9, 1933, at Watson. He died July 30, 2007, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center in Springfield.
He grew up in the Watson community, graduating from high school in 1951. He attended Tarkio College for two years.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and was discharged in 1956.
He married Karen Kay Franklin in January 1957. They had two children.
Mr. Gaines worked in construction, building houses. He was a rural mail carrier at Houston and Cabool before his retirement.
His hobbies were gardening, fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed attending his grandsons ball games.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Gaines.
Surviving are his wife of the home at Houston; one son, Thomas Gaines of Houston; one daughter, Kay Walker of Bucyrus; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services are 10 o’clock Friday at the Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
Visitation is 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (Thursday) at the Evans chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Cemetery.
