The City of Houston has granted a building permit for construction of a new office complex along South Sam Houston Blvd.

The 4,450 square foot building is under contract to Licking Construction, and it is situated east of Keller Rentals and north of property owned by First National Bank. The city says it has been told a brokerage business will occupy the space on property owned by Houston businessman Dwayne Rees.

The discussion came Monday during a meeting of the Houston City Council.

Members received updates on several ongoing projects, including:

-A segment of a walking and bicycling trail along Brushy Creek. Final drawings are complete and will be forwarded to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for review. Another leg of the Village Trail is under construction in Emmett Kelly Park. Cleanup continues along Brushy Creek, where the trailhead will be situated at Oak Hill and Walnut streets.

-Met with Dr. Tammy Albrecht concerning the location of a medical clinic in quarters once occupied by retired doctor Joe Wall. The city pledged its support in working with her concerning parking and other needs.

-Will hold a public hearing on annexation of 6.8 acres owned by Tyson Troutman. The property is situated just northwest of the city’s corporate limits.

-Authorizing paperwork for another leg of a walking trail with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Included in the grant is funding for signage directing traffic to the downtown business district.

-A major upgrade to the city’s wastewater treatment plant. The city is preparing an application seeking up to $500,000 in grant funds earmarked toward financing the project. The city should know by March whether it is successful. A bond issue for other financing may come as early as June.
