Bettye Jean Barnett, 79, daughter of Charles and Versie Nichols Summit, was born Feb. 28, 1928, at Kingman, Kan. She died Sept. 4, 2007, at her home at Licking.
She married Benjamin Barnett Oct. 4, 1946, at Harrison, Ark. In 1957, they came to Raymondville and started the Texas County Post Co., operating it as long as his health permitted.
Mrs. Barnett enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, needle crafts and giving her quilts and crafts to family and friends. She liked to watch her hummingbirds and go fishing.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Vera Summitt and Evelyn Hiebert; and three brothers, Clyde, Glen and Alfred Summitt.
Surviving are her three children, Gary Barnett of Houston, Texas, Kevin Barnett of Polo and Rita Hagenhoff of Fair Grove; one brother, Robert Summitt of Harrison, Ark.; a sister, Irene Simpson of Winona; and seven grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 7 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Springfield National Cemetery.
