Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes are resuming in Texas County.

The program educates private citizens, businesses, school officials and staff about personal and community disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their homes, businesses and school environments. Fire, EMTs and law enforcement also take the course to understand where CERT can be incorporated with their response duties.

An overview of the program will be presented from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the Texas County Health Department on North U.S. 63.

There is no charge for the training, and those completing the program receive a certificate as a member of the Citizens Corps of Texas County. Officials said the program involves much more than disaster preparedness, and persons can also provide support to communities in non-disaster service. A lot of physical activity is not required in some roles.
