Dallas Ray Reed, 60, son of Elmer and Inda Freeman Reed Dobson, was born June 13, 1947, in Douglas County. He died Oct. 5, 2007, at his home after a long illness.
He graduated from Cabool High School in 1965, where he excelled in football and track. During the summers, he played baseball in Cabool or Mountain Grove.
He was drafted into the Army and served with the 101st Airborne Division. He was wounded in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart.
He married Patsy “Patty” Hoyle Oct. 21, 1965. They had three children.
He retired from General Motors at O’Fallon. After retirement, the Reeds moved to the Cabool area to live on a farm near Elk Creek. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren and other family children.
Mr. Reed was saved as a young man and was baptized in the North Fork Creek. He attended the Free Will Baptist Church at O’Fallon and the Providence Free Will Baptist Church of Cabool as long as his health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepfather, Melvin Dobson.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years; daughters, Shiela Reed of Edwardsville, Ill., and Misty Hauck of O’Fallon; son, Dallas of O’Fallon; his mother of Mountain Grove; brothers, Junior Reed of Mountain Grove and Billy Reed of Cabool; sisters, Virginia Kennedy and Janice Murr of Mountain Grove, Sharrion Vandivort of Houston and Geneva Scheets of Cabool; and four grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 8 at the Second Baptist Church at Cabool with Dennis Adkison officiating. Burial with full military honors was in the Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Cabool Alumni Association Stadium Fund or Gideon’s International.
