Flu vaccination clinics are planned at senior centers in Texas County.

The 9 a.m. to noon schedule is: Oct. 17, Summersville; and Nov. 1, Cabool. The clinics are open to anyone. Clinics were held earlier at Licking and Houston.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration advises vaccination remains the single most effective preventive measure available against influenza, and it can prevent many illnesses and deaths. The Centers for Disease Control recommends October or November as the best time to get vaccinated, but getting a shot in December or even later can still be beneficial since most influenza activity occurs in January or later in most years.

For more information on the clinics, call Carolyn Bell, R.N., at the health department at 417-967-4131.
