Houston School District patrons will learn the details next week about a $3 million building project proposed by the board of education. Preliminary plans set for an unveiling next week were discussed Monday during a school board meeting.
Wade Lininger from the Springfield architectural firm of Sam A. Winn & Associates met with the board to complete plans that will be made public by Monday, said Clinton Waters, superintendent.
Plans call for the construction of a new library, classrooms that would include the science department and some language arts instruction, nursing facilities and some administrative space north of the fine arts building, which would be leveled. Posters of the plans will be displayed beginning next week at area businesses. The project – which has been revised several times – would require no debt service levy increase and addresses space needs for the district, Waters said. The effort is the first of three phases that would cover an extended period of time that would result eventually in the creation of a new high school, said Waters.
The board also voted to call a public forum on the project for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at the elementary commons. Patrons’ comments will be sought.
In other matters, members:
-Met with Dr. Drew Bennett, who recently assumed duties of chancellor Missouri State University in West Plains. The board expressed its appreciate for the chancellor’s visit and the institution’s interest in its classes offered at the Houston satellite campus.
-Learned that the district’s annual routine audit found no compliance issues.
-Approved the addition of several to the district’s substitute teacher’s list: Christina Maki, Loretta May, Shalena Purcell, Michael Bleckler, Melissa Barton, Vickie Sillyman, Melissa Blank, Michael Allen and Rebacca Korte.
