Jonathan Batcheller had a pair of short touchdown runs as Ava scored 21 unanswered second-half points to rally past Cabool 28-26.

The Bulldogs had a chance to tie the game after Lucas Dotson’s 9-yard score with 5:53 left, but the two-point conversion failed.

Cabool (4-3, 1-2 SCA) got touchdown runs from Ryan Smith, Patrick Jesse and C.R. Polston to take a 20-7 halftime lead. But Batcheller’s runs of 2 and 1 yard put the Bears in front 21-20.

Batcheller hit Johnny Roscoe for a 7-yard score early in the fourth quarter to make it 28-20. Chance Davis had a 4-yard score for Ava (5-2, 4-1 SCA) in the first quarter.

Mountain Grove 42, Houston 7: Logan and Evan Williams had two touchdowns apiece as the Panthers clinched the SCA championship.

After falling behind 7-0, the Panthers (7-0, 6-0 SCA) scored 42 unanswered points to remain undefeated.

Evan Williams had 70 yards on 17 carries to lead Mountain Grove, which had 324 yards of total offense despite playing without suspended senior Aaron Charlson.

Houston (0-7, 0-3 SCA), which has lost 17 consecutive games, scored first when Ty Scheets scored on a 9-yard pass from David Weybright. Scheets set up the touchdown when he intercepted Casey White at the Panthers’ 17-yard line.

Salem 19, Liberty 7: C.J. Smith returned an interception 40 yards for a score as the Tigers scored the game’s first 19 points and cruised to a home victory.

Coddy Wofford’s 46-yard third-quarter touchdown run and a 1-yard score by Max Ball in the fourth quarter gave Salem (3-4, 3-2 SCA) a comfortable lead.

Mtn. View-Liberty (1-6, 0-3 SCA) got its lone points on Luke Yarber’s 3-yard pas to Adam Mattison.

Thayer 14, Willow Springs 6: Michael Lowther and Jacob Eckman had rushing touchdowns as undefeated Thayer squeaked past the Bears.

After Lowther’s 10-yard run in the first quarter, Justin Johnson hit Derek Chapman with a 5-yard pass as Willow Springs (2-5, 0-3 SCA) close the gap to 7-6.

It remained that way until Eckman broke loose for a 33-yard run in the fourth quarter.
