John W. Stanton, 66, son of Charles and Agnes Hutson Stanton, was born Dec. 1, 1940, at Kennard, Ind. He died Nov. 2, 2007, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City.

He grew up in Houston, where he graduated from high school. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Central Christian Center for more than 20 years.

Mr. Stanton loved to go fishing and spend time with his dog, Moses.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Claude Stanton; sister, Catherine Sue Atkisson; and his first wife, Ann.

Surviving are his wife, Pam, of Joplin; son, Josh Stanton of Joplin; stepdaughter, Kalai Oakman of Birmingham, Ala.; stepson, John Allan of Diamond; four brothers, Tom and Charles Stanton of Houston, Jim Stanton of Kansas City and Jerry Stanton of Raymondville; two sisters, Gwen Foraker of Flippin, Ark., and Shirley Lakin of Wood River, Ill.; a special nephew, Michael; and six grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 5 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Delbert Gayer officiating. Burial was in the Pine Lawn Cemetery.
