Authorities apprehended a man early Wednesday morning they believe is responsible for 19 confirmed burglaries the past month within a 15-mile radius of Houston.
Texas County Sheriff Carl Watson said Paul Franklin Dodd, 35, of Houston, was captured near Bucyrus at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday by members of the sheriff’s department and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Watson said Dodd and potentially two accomplices targeted abandoned barns and houses for copper wire. They swiped generators, heaters and AC units from buildings and took radiators and batteries from vehicles.
Watson, who believes two more burglaries could be linked to Dodd, said replacement costs for stolen property is nearly $100,000. Some units were stripped of their copper wire at the location and others were taken.
Dodd, who pulled off heists from Simmons and Solo to just south of Licking, faces burglary and stealing charges in Texas County and an Arkansas domestic dispute warrant.
Watson said the last known heist was committed last week. He said Dodd has already sold some of the copper inside the county.
“Pennies on the dollar is what they are getting,” Watson said. “It’s easier than working, I guess.”
