Walter Edwin Laidley, 91, third son of Thomas Henry Laidley and Charlotte “Lottie” Harris Laidley, was born Dec. 24, 1915. He died Nov. 23, 2007, at his farm near Summersville.
Mr. Laidley spent most of his life farming with the exception of a few years at Washington, Mo. He lived in a house built more than a 100 years ago by his grandfather and father.
He married Volanda Haeffner Nov. 26, 1954. A school teacher, she preceded him in death May 16, 1992.
Mr. Laidley was a member of the First Methodist Church of Summersville, where he was a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and three brothers, James, Norval and Irvin.
Surviving are his stepdaughter, Barbara Jean Laidley Jolly of Imperial Beach, Calif.; 10 step-grandchildren and a special niece by marriage, Judith Weston of Summersville.
Services were Dec. 4 at the Duncan Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Kathy Osiel officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery at Summersville.
