New voter notification post cards were mailed out last week, Texas County Clerk Don Troutman said.

Troutman’s office dropped 14,900 red and white cards in the mail. State law requires the local election authority to mail the cards every two years before federal elections. The cards list the recipient’s polling place for 2008.

The cards can be used as identification at the polls unless a voter registered by mail, Troutman said. In that case, another form of ID will be required.

Troutman encourages voters to check their cards for accuracy. If the recipient has moved within the county, fill in the new 911 and mailing address in the spaces provided and send it to the clerk’s office for processing.

Voters who move to another county or state must re-register to vote. The last day to register to vote or change an address for the Feb. 5 presidential preference primary election is 5 p.m. Jan 9.
