Members of the Houston City Council gave final approval last week to a new subdivision and heard that Houston’s city hall has new energy-saving light bulbs with new ballasts.

The business occurred during a short session of the council.

The council approved a final plat for Warkentin Estates at Holder Drive and North Industrial Drive. Plans call for two phases. The first will include eight, 1,500 square feet homes with three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car garage. Phone II includes some homes with walk-out basements.

City Administrator Larry Sutton reported completion of the project that makes the city hall more environmental friendly, which ultimately will save on energy costs. New bulbs and ballasts were recently installed.

In other matters, members:

-Approved completing paperwork to participate in a tax settlement case involving AT&T. Sutton said it was unclear how much the city might claim.

-Heard that storm damage to city-owned property during a wind storm earlier this month will be at least $40,000. The city is working with its insurance carrier.

-Learned that a fence has been completed between property owned by the city and The Animal Shelter of Texas County on East Highway 17.
